Free Horizon Montessori School, Golden CO
Date of Placement: May 01 2009Free Horizon Montessori is a Jeffco Public Charter School serving 266 students in preschool through 6th grade with a staff of 42. They serve a diverse student population, including children with medical anomalies. Free Horizon Montessori also has a Before and After School Program, Summer Camp and a myriad of After School Enrichment classes held on site. The school serves as a meeting location for the Board of Directors, Community Support Network (similar to a PTO), and several Boy and Girl Scout groups.
Because Free Horizon Montessori requires each family to provide 30 hours of volunteer service each year, they typically have up to a dozen parents and grandparents in the building at any given time. The Parents Lounge provides an area for adults to gather and socialize any time they would like, often with younger children in tow. Additionally, all of the full-day students participate in Psychical Education classes, and several of the After School Enrichment programs include physical activity. At any given time the school could have infants through senior citizens on campus.
Free Horizons Montessori has long been aware of the need for AED's, through CPR and First Aid training courses and certifications received by various staff members and the orgnanization itself. The Community Support Network generously paid the $500 "Pay It Forward" donation on behalf of the school, to Kick Start My Heart, and we implemented their AED in May 2009!
