Colorado Rush Soccer Club, Littleton CO
Date of Placement: Feb 03 2009Colorado Rush Soccer Club has a membership of between 3,500 and 5,000 players ranging from ages 4-18 for youth and adult leagues. During practices there may be 5-12 teams training at any one complex from 4-8pm; practices occur at multiple fields and parks. On game days, spectators range hourly from 20-60 on average.
With this level of exposure to youth sports, Colorado Rush is clear about the need for an AED: "In the past two years, we have had a couple of incidents that have occurred that have reminded us of the need for an AED. Two years ago, a referee had a heart attack (no cardiac arrest) during a game. Once he was hooked up to an AED a shock was advised."
"This summer, one of our 19 year old players collapsed on the field and suffered seizures. While his breathing remained intact, doctors have found a heart problem that will prevent him from ever playing again. These close calls are one too many. We would like an AED so we don't have to tell anyone's parent, family, or spouse "I'm sorry; there's nothing more we could do"."
Kick Start My Heart received the $500 "Pay It Forward" donation from Colorado Rush in September 2008 and we are very excited to make this our first AED placement on 2009!!
